The Mixfiles 2010: An Overview

2011 is around the corner, so it’s time to take a look at 2010.

You might have noticed that posts have ‘slowed down’ (stopped) since August. This is because we’ve only been posting to our Soundcloud and Facebook pages, since those channels are easier to follow and easier to post to, than this blog.

Due to the nature of these channels, I’ve also started experimenting with shorter mixes, because people who are just browsing Facebook are not going to keep their browser tab open for 80 minutes.

This gave rise to the mash-up sessions (#1, #2). Posting mixes on YouTube obviously gives rise to another set of possibilities; namely collaberations with visual artists. If that’s you? Mail us at

Without further ado, here is the musical overview of 2010, including a lot of mixes which have not been posted here on the main page… Oh yeah, and at the end, there’s a little 15 minute mix to help you get warmed up for New Year’s Eve!!

The year started with Recyclopedia, a progressive set with some mid-nineties trance, back when the genre was still quite experimental.

Then came Ain’tNoPartyLikeElectroParties… A smashing electro mix for partying!

Then DubberBullet, a mix exploring the reaches of dubstep and related genres.

SpecialDelivery14 was a special drum & bass mix for valentine’s day.

There was also a special mix by DJ Crack Kopen featuring some great hiphop, titled 90′s Nostalgia.

The followed the first mixes that didn’t make it to the main page…

A smashing drum & bass mix titled Rum&Bass and also…

YaarrStyle, a hardstyle mix. Yeah, I was feeling piratey at that time.

I kept it hardstyle for a while and pushed out another mix, named Hardrenaline.

The last mix posted on the main page, was BumpBounceBang, a fun party-type mix.

Attention! None of the following mixes have been posted here before!

BreakYourToys combined a bunch of genres, but centered around breakcore.

In September, there was the first “YouTube-mix”, a 15-minute breakcore sessions titled Crazy Mash-Up Session #001.

BassRevival, a drum & bass set aiming to find the sound of the classic drum & bass in the more modern dnb, by blending the two together.

HairWhipper! Electro house anyone?

spiralinfinity was perhaps the most special DJ set I did this year. If you need a break, put this on in the background and drift away. Be sure to check out the description on the mix page!

And then we’ve reached the end of the year!

I’ve been thinking for a while that I really miss the old sounds of drum & bass that kind of disappeared from the scene a few years ago. It’s such a shame, because the tracks used to be heavy without bullshit. However, there are some very interesting styles developing with drum & bass right now, so I bundled and mixed some of that great innovativity with some of that raw oldskool sound.

Nightmares have to put up with a lot of crap. Of all the different types of dreams, you’ll never see a fan page for this type of dream. But why not? What’s more exhilarating than a nightmare? The rush of being chased, of an adventure! Of course adventures are only good if they have a happy ending, but what’s a happier ending than waking up in your own bed!?
